The Gray

The day starts

Gray and gloomy

The day ends

Drab and dull

I go through the motions

Wait for dawn

Start once more

I play the parts

Assigned to me:

Talk to friends,

Feel the lull

Feign devotions

Carry on

Complete each chore

A spark burned bright in a different life

The light has died amid the strife

Of seeing the drab dull gray

And the gloom day after day

I don’t yearn for the shine nor the knife

To take this gray away

It’s here to stay
