The People Zoo

We face each other ,

Talk and laugh,

But in between us

There is glass,

Sorting us, distorting us.

Welcome to the people zoo,

Separating people who

Belong together

Be strong together

It’d be wrong to tether

Them apart—

But that’s just the start.

The glass is thick

And sometimes fogs.

I feel like we’re

Just cows and hogs,

Nothing deeper, to our keeper.

Cause here at the people zoo

They lock and cage people too

Who yearn to be free,

Who learn to see “free”

As who earns whose beef, returns, redeems.

Or that’s how it seems.

Can’t we leave the people zoo?

This sensation people rue.

The purest question

The surest question

Who the tourists best shun: who

Is in the cage — me or you?
